Phone Line Sharing is a handy utility for people who want to use a single phone line for both fax/modem communication and the answering machine. You can remotely start any piece of software by calling with a predetermined number of rings.  Configure the sharer to run fax or communications software when it receives only two rings. Faxes are then transmitted, or your communications program started, without the answering machine picking up the call. After the call terminates Phone Line Sharing shuts down the program and continues to monitor the line, allowing normal use of your answering machine to resume. The sharer makes no impact on incoming calls that cause the phone to ring more (or fewer) times than you specified.
